The 1980 Pine River Football squad featured only two seniors with football experience, captains Jim Hastings and Dennis Hebner. Sadly, would be senior Scott Baker died in a car accident a month before the season started. Despite the teams low numbers and inexperience, the 1980 team did manage to finish the season with two wins. The Bucks, who only played 8 games, started the season with three straight losses before beating Manton in overtime by the score of 14-12. After three more loses the Bucks finished the season on a high note by beating Kalkaska by the score of 12-6. The Bucks were led on offense by Todd Flint who had 673 combined rushing and passing yards. They were led on defense by all-conference lineman Dennis Hebner who had over 60 tackles and four quarterback sacks.
